Following the great success of the Graduate Student Research Showcase last year, we are organizing poster showcase again this year. The 2nd IEEE Graduate Student Research Showcase will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, 19 April 2006 in the Science and Engineering Building at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL. The event will provide an opportunity for graduate students to showcase their research and projects. Graduate students in the CSE and EE departments are encouraged to participate in this exciting event. Graduate students from the other departments can also participate if their research is in the areas of computing, communication, or signal processing. Posters should be based on the students' ongoing or planned research. The posters presented can be related to students' thesis, DIS, course projects, or other research projects. Posters can include both individual and team projects.

A PDF version of the announcement can be downloaded here: announcement.

Format
Posters may be prepared on about 8 to 15 sheets of 8.5x11 paper. Presentation boards shall be provided to display your posters. The presentation boards are 48x36 inches. See the poster guidelines below.

Prizes
The posters will be scored and evaluated by three judges. The names of the judges will be announced at a later date. The evaluations will be based on content, visuals, as well as presentation. Three prizes will be awarded (one per team):

  • 1st prize - $150
  • 2nd prize - $100
  • 3rd prize - $50

Registration
To register please e-mail with the title, names of the student(s), advisor(s), and a 200 word abstract of your poster by April 10 to hari@cse.fau.edu. A one page final abstract must be submitted for all the posters presented during the session. See the final abstract submission guidelines below.

Important Dates
April 10, 2006 Abstract registration deadline
April 11, 2006 Notification of acceptance
April 17, 2006 Final abstract submission

Poster Guidelines

Presentation boards will be provided. You can pick up the boards from the Multimedia Lab in Rm. 413. Presentation borad dimensions are 36 (height)x48 (width) inches. The boards can fit upto 16 letter size pages (8.5x11). Prepare slides for the poster using a program such as Powerpoint. A large font size of 24 or higher should be used. Use only push pins (tape should not be used) to attach your slides to the poster. A sample image of the presentation board is shown below.

Final Abstract Preparation

Download Final Abstract Template

The final abstract must be submitted by 4/17/06. The final abstracts must be submitted in MS Word format using the template. Do not alter the fonts/colors used in the abstract template provided. If you are copying and pasting text in to the template, you can use Edit->Paste Special from the MS Word edit menu to preserve the fonts and colors in the template. The final abstract cannot exceed one page. You should make efforts to convey your ideas, approaches, and key results in the final abstract template; see the template for a sample. The MS Word file for the final abstract must use the following naming convention: "<poster number>_<lastname of student>.doc"; e.g., 12_smith.doc. Use poster numbers from the accepted posters list below.
